Demand side response (DSR), also known as demand side management (DSM), refers to the targeted control of energy demand - such as electricity consumption. Instead of generating more electricity during short periods of particularly high demand, energy consumption can be managed intelligently with the help of DSR. For example, a supermarket’s frozen food sections can be switched off briefly, or energy-intensive factories can shift their production to a time when the power grid is less heavily loaded.
